There’s something about an Altadena backyard wedding that just feels different, in the best way! Yana & Ian’s day didn’t feel like a production or something overly planned out. It felt like walking into a really good house party where you actually know everyone. The music is perfect, and the energy just builds naturally as the night goes on. Set at a modern Spanish-style home in Altadena with around 40 of their closest people, their wedding was small, intentional, and full of heart without trying too hard.

The details of this day didn’t try to steal the show, they just fit. Long tables set under the trees, soft linens with light blue runners, woven fans at each place setting, and florals that felt simple and natural. Nothing felt over designed or forced, which honestly made everything feel even more elevated. Guests trickled in and immediately settled into the space. People were catching up, grabbing drinks, and easing into the evening instead of being rushed from one thing to the next. It felt comfortable right away, like being invited into someone’s home (because you were). And that made everything feel a little more meaningful.

The ceremony was tucked into the greenery, surrounded by people who clearly meant a lot to Yana & Ian. It wasn’t overly structured or performative, it just felt real. You could see it in the way they looked at each other, the little reactions from their friends, and those quiet in-between moments that usually get overlooked. One of my favorite things was how relaxed it all felt. Kids moving around, people shifting, soft laughter here and there, nothing felt stiff or overly “perfect.” It felt like real life, just slowed down a bit. And honestly, that’s what made it so special!

As the sun started to go down, the whole vibe shifted. The DJ started playing nostalgic 90s trip-hop. The string lights turned on, and it naturally turned into the kind of party you don’t want to leave. People gathered around the tables, drinks in hand, conversations overlapping, and laughter carrying through the yard. Yana & Ian moved through it all so naturally, hugging people, checking in with everyone, and still finding little moments for just the two of them.
Once the dancing started, it was all in. Nothing staged, nothing forced, just a really good time with people who wanted to be there. By the end of the night, no one was rushing out. Shoes came off, ties loosened, and the music kept going. It felt easy, comfortable, and full in a way that’s hard to describe but you know it when you feel it.

If you’re considering an Altadena backyard wedding and want something that feels more like you and less like a production, this is your reminder that it can be simple and still feel incredibly special. You don’t need a huge guest list or a packed timeline, just the right space, your people, and room to actually enjoy it. If that’s the kind of day you’re envisioning, I’d love to be there to document it in a way that feels just as real as it did in the moment.
