There’s something incredibly special about a proposal that feels completely true to the people at the center of it. Courtney and Luna’s surprise proposal in Silver Lake was exactly that! Thoughtful, personal, and filled with genuine emotion from beginning to end. Instead of choosing a traditional proposal location, Courtney planned to ask one of the biggest questions of her life inside a vintage photo booth at the Photo Booth Museum in Silver Lake, a place that already felt nostalgic before the proposal even happened. The result was a proposal filled with laughter, tears, and the kind of joy that’s impossible to fake.

A Surprise Proposal in Silver Lake Hidden Inside a Vintage Photo Booth

The plan was beautifully simple. Courtney and Luna would step into one of the museum’s vintage photo booths together, just like they were there for a fun afternoon date. As the camera captured a strip of photographs, Courtney would surprise Luna with a proposal. Meanwhile, I stayed hidden nearby, waiting for the moment they stepped back out.

As with any surprise proposal, there were plenty of nerves leading up to it. Those few minutes before something life-changing happens always seem to move both incredibly fast and incredibly slow. But Courtney never gave anything away. Luna had absolutely no idea what was about to happen. When she realized what was unfolding, the surprise on her face quickly turned into pure happiness. One of my favorite things about photographing proposals is watching that exact transition happen, the moment someone realizes the person they love has been planning this huge act of love just for them!

The Emotion Behind This Vintage Photo Booth Proposal

What made this proposal so memorable wasn’t just the location. It was how personal it felt. The photo booth created this tiny, intimate space where it was just the two of them. While the camera clicked away, they were creating a keepsake they’ll be able to hold onto forever. The photo strip became part of the story itself, capturing real reactions and real emotions as the proposal unfolded.

Looking through the images afterward, you can see every stage of the moment. The surprise. The disbelief. The tears. The laughter. The excitement. Those are the moments that tend to stay with people long after the day is over. Not because everything was perfectly planned, but because the emotions were completely genuine.

Wandering Through Silver Lake as Newly Engaged

After the proposal, we spent some time walking around Silver Lake together, taking engagement portraits and letting everything sink in. One of the things I love about Silver Lake is that it feels effortlessly interesting. The neighborhood has so much character, from its vintage storefronts and hidden corners to the relaxed energy that makes it feel distinctly Los Angeles without feeling overwhelming. It was the perfect setting for Courtney and Luna to simply enjoy being together in the first few hours of their engagement.

Some of my favorite photos from the afternoon happened during these quieter moments. The big surprise was over, the nerves had disappeared, and they could finally just be present with each other. Walking hand in hand, laughing about what had just happened, and occasionally stopping to look at the ring all over again. Those moments felt every bit as meaningful as the proposal itself.
